3 industry targeting examples

Here’s how to combine the right industries for your target. 👇

You sell a tool for SaaS sales teams

Software DevelopmentTechnology, Information and Internet

Why it works:

  • •Targets companies that actually build software, not just the ones that use it.
  • •Avoids false positives from “growth” or “business developer” job titles, which exist in every industry.

You prospect consulting firms

Business Consulting and ServicesProfessional Services

Why it works:

  • •Groups strategy, HR and organization consulting firms under a single filter.
  • •Works well with a company size filter to target firms under 50 people.

You target e-commerce brands

RetailOnline and Mail Order Retail

Why it works:

  • •Separates physical stores from pure e-commerce if your target is specifically online.
  • •Works well with a job title keyword search (e.g. “e-commerce manager”).

Tips to target the right industries

1.Combine several close industries

The same business is often spread across 2 or 3 different LinkedIn labels. Add them all as tags so you don’t miss anyone.

2.Add a location or size filter

The industry targets the market. Location and company size narrow down the search.

3.Check the official label

“Growth” or “SaaS” aren’t LinkedIn industries. Type your word anyway: the tool suggests the matching official label.

4.Don’t stack too many industries

Broad targeting dilutes relevance. 2 precise industries beat 6 approximate ones.
